Micro Francis turbine

Francis turbine is applicable to middle and low water head and middle and small flow of hydropower station. Micro hydropower project is usually using vertical type Francis turbine generator system. The turbine is mainly composed of spiral case (water diversion chamber), turbine runner or wheel, water guide vane (wicket gates), draft tube, etc.

Spiral case/Water diversion chamber of micro Francis turbine generator

Water diversion chamber is commonly using metal spiral case for micro hydroelectric project. Its main role is to make the water flow evenly, symmetry to flow into the water guide vane, to reduce head loss, and ensure the wheel surface to receive strength evenly and working stability. The shape of the water diversion chamber is like a snail, so called “spiral case” of Francis turbine. As its water cross section is to reduce gradually from the water intake to the end of the spiral case, so that we can ensure even water into the guide vane and form a stable rotation speed, reducing head loss. With small size of structure, spiral case is a good form of diversion chamber.

Hydro Turbine runner is the heart of the turbine system, water energy is converted into mechanical energy by turbine wheel, generally referring to the turbine model, essentially refers to the type of turbine runner. Francis turbine runner is composed of twisted blades, hub and wheel ring parts. Blade number 10 to 24 pieces are available, and generally in 14 ~ 17. In order to get good performance of turbine runner, model test and redesign is the good way to meet the client’s micro hydroelectric plant project.

One end of the water wheel hub connected to the main shaft, the other end connected to the drainage cone, in order to reduce leakage loss, general equipped with stop leakage ring in runner ring. Water turbine Runner wheel, blade and runner ring can be integrally cast, can also be a casting or welding.

Guide vane/ Wicket gates of micro hydroelectric turbines

The function of water wicket gates is:

1. Guide the water flow into the wheel according to the favorable direction;
2. Regulate the water flow volume into the turbine runner, so as to control the output of the turbine to meet the external electric load changes;
3. for starting or stopping the hydropower turbines.
